07-022: Art Festival Grand Concert, 1976

The Peace River Block News — Wednesday, May 5, 1976
The presentation of 29 awards highlighted last Friday’s 14th annual Peace Country Arts Festival grand concert. A near capacity crowd was in attendance in Unchagah Hall for the ceremonies which brought the week-long festival to a close. The festival, in all its variety, included over 1,000 participants.

The crowd was held in suspense until the final minute, when it was announced that Thomas Schoen had won the Winspear, Higgins, Stevenson and Co. trophy and the South Peace Arts Council scholarship for $300 for the most deserving entry chosen by the adjudicators. Mrs. Helen Galibois, President of the Peace Country Arts Festival, made the presentations.

Following are the winners as honored last Friday night:

DANCING

    • Kinsmen Club Trophy for Group Dancing Notre Dame Folk Group, runner up Canalta Group 1 Shane Therrian, Elizabeth Whitehouse.
    • Kinnette Club Trophy for Couple Dancing Rochelle Lemogis and Andrea Nadon runner up Layle McLean and Shelley Regenwetter.
    • Rotary Club for modern or creative dance Rochelle Lemogis.
    • Lakeview Credit Union Trophy for Baton Shelley Proctor, E. Shirley, Denise Plourd.
    • Medallion for ballet and acrobatic dance Madeline Tyophy.
    • Medallion for Modern and Creative Dance Patricia Martin. Kimberley Erickson
    • H. Sketchley Trophy for spoken verse solo grades 4 to 7 Sharilyn Keith.
    • PRSTA trophy, Spoken verse solo grade 8 and over Greg Kurjata
    • Viola Benson Trophy for dialogues Canalta Eric Rose and Bob Grant in Tom Sawyer.
    • Medallions for Dramatic Improvisation Frank Ross Holly Frederickson, Terri Wright, Lisa Pernitsky and Ellen Coons.
    • Medallion for solo mime 10 years and under Janet Madden
    • Medallion for Story Telling and Bible reading over 12 years Mrs. Margaret Teeple.
    • Medallion for solo mime 10 years and under Janet Madden
    • Medallion for solo scenes 16 years and under Layle McLean
    • Medallion for Story Telling and Bible reading 12 years and under Shirley Love

CREATIVE WRITING

    • School District No. 59 Trophy Poetry 18 and under Tricia Beckensell for “Haunt”

SPEECH ARTS

    • B.P.O. Elks Trophy for choral speech grades 3 and under Notre Dame Grade 3
    • IODE Trophy for Choral Speech grades 4 and over Canalta Grade 7
    • Sons of Norway Trophy for Group Scene Canalta for “Charlie Brown” runner up Grant Holland and Charlie Trail.
    • Parmar Trophy for spoken verse solo Grade 1 to 3

PIANO AND ACCORDION

    • Kiwanis Club Trophy Piano 13 and under Therese Ruscheinski
    • German Canadian Society Trophy piano solo 14 and over Cathy Pedersen
    • Peacelander Realty Trophy Piano solo grades 1 to 5 Linda Caisley tied with Greg Caisley.
    • Peacelander Realty Trophy Piano solo grades 6 to 10 Deryl Rose.
