BN11-42: Maternity Lounge Opened at Hospital

Recent History – 2003

Feb. 19, 2003, By Kelly Harris, Daily News Staff

It could be called the McPediatrics and Maternity Lounge at the Dawson Creek and District Hospital.

The hospital’s new lounge for parents, family and kids was furnished and decorated through cash raised during McHappy Day 2002.

“Now parents have a room, a lounge, they can come to,” said Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation director of development Gloria Cleve. “To visit and be with their children.”

Money raised during McHappy Day and from continuing efforts by the hospital foundation helped make the room a reality.

Included in the room are a couch, a rocking chair and recliner. There is a table and chair set and a set of coffee tables and lamps.

The room also has a television and VCR combination with a stand and a portable sound system and a variety of CDs. A bulletin board with health tips and diagrams of the human body adorn the walls.

There is also a computer loaded up with educational software, a bookshelf and floor puzzle and a bead maze and enclosed magnetic sand table with two stools.

All of the items in the room are washable for sanitary purposes, and portable in case the room needs to be converted back into medical uses.

On the walls are pictures of McDonald’s characters coloured by Dawson Creek kids, three of which were awarded Tuesday for their work.

First prize in the McDonald’s colouring contest was Cassie McPherson, nine, second place Kirsten Blum, seven, and third place to Jessica Dostal, seven. Each girl was given mini-jerseys from McDonalds.
