BN05-29: Homecoming 2000 Takes Shape with Events Calendar

Recent History – 1999

Nov. 8, 1999

Several reunions and a Homecoming 2000 celebration are just a few of the many events that will make the year 2000 a memorable one. While the actual homecoming events only take place in July and August next year, the Homecoming Committee has compiled a preliminary list of events for the whole year.

“The interest is building for the year 2000,” says Day Roberts, a committee member.

In addition to the many annual happenings, events like the Northern Wood Forum on Sept. 14-16, a four-year SPSS reunion on July 1 and the Canadian National Telecommunications reunion on July 14-16 are the big ticket items, as is the Homecoming 2000 Celebration on Aug. 26.

“We’ve got the whole arena booked for that,” says committee member and Homecoming 2000 initiator Bill Lawrence. “We’re looking for some headliners to bring in.”

More than 120 people have already registered for the high school reunion of the classes of 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952.

The Canadian National Telecommunications reunion should also attract a few people. CNT had its district headquarters in Dawson Creek in the ‘60s.

The Canadian Freightways reunion is planned for June 30 to July 2.

Roberts said if there are more groups planning reunions or otherwise don’t see their year 2000 events listed, they can contact the Dawson Creek Visitor Information Centre to have it registered.
