BN07-17: CD a Strong Start for Singer Kim Kuzma

Recent History – 1999

September 29, 1999

By Charity Wallace, Daily News Staff

Richard’s on Richards in Vancouver had to turn people away for Kim Kuzma’s debut.

More than 400 people packed into the club to hear songs from the artist’s compact disc Contradictions.

“It was wicked, there were 441 people there and usually debuts only see about 150 people, so I’m really, really lucky.”

Kuzma, who was a Dawson Creek local while attending grades five to 12, says that she is very grateful for the support the community has given her.

“Dawson Creek has always shown a great support for the talent in the community,”she said. “Growing up here was really great for me, I always sang in the school choir and when I was in Dawson Creek I got involved in theatre and I could hone my talent because there wasn’t a lot of outside activities.”

Kuzma describes her music as contemporary with a touch of rhythm and blues and there are a couple of ballads.

“The players I got to play on the CD were Sarah McLauglin’s guitarist, her base guitarist and her piano player, and Brian Adam’s guitarist,” she said. “It’s just a stellar CD, I’m so proud of it.”

Some of the songs included on the CD are Confessions, River, Braveheart and Do You Remember.

“The first single is called ‘Do You Remember’ and it’s about falling in love and it being great,” she said. “But the line ‘do you remember’ is after you’ve told a few lies and a few more people have been incorporated into your relationship than you wanted and it’s all about do you remember why we got together in the first place.”

Kuzma’s CD will be on the shelves of Top Forty at the Dawson Mall.
