BN05-13: Building Permits Close to $12 Million for 1998

Recent History – 1998

Jan, 13, 1999, By Daily News Staff

The value of permits issued for new buildings in Dawson Creek totaled $11.6 million in 1998, council learned on Monday.

The total falls just short of the $12 million milestone that Councilor Frank Grant had anticipated, but easily exceeded the $10 million level expected by Mayor Blair Lekstrom.

“We would’ve broke $12 million if Peace Tractor took a permit out on the whole building and not just on the foundation,” Grant said in reference to work being done by Peace Tractor at the Heritage Industrial Park.

The total far exceeds that for 1997, which was $7.47 million.

Taxable permits, meanwhile, totaled $10.46 million, compared to $6.04 million in 1997.

Such projects as the Lake View Credit Union, the Loran townhouses, and the new Super 8 Motel were credited for producing the banner year.
